My final submission to the One Car Challenge organized by 3dmodels.org (earlier Humster).
Heading to the final with the contest project.
Finalizing the road material and additional "extend" details for the forest. Increasing Japan vibes with pagoda and some old stairs and shrines would be a good way. If not the rules limitation, I would change the licence plate too.
Probably the most annoying and difficult part of the whole project - to place the tries and catch the right position so frame composition, light/shadow on the leaves and shadow on the road, car and forest ground, and reflection of the wet road, will match my plan.
After several sessions, the scene got further updates and deeper detalization.
For better scene mood pronounce, I started to build the light/shadow composition. The main goal is to replicate famous Ing Yang symbol, where the right side will be dark, wet and "thick" zone, left side will be sunny, dry and light, meanwhile the scene union object (almost at the center) will be the car itself.
Reworked the road material and started experimenting with advance wet/drying out asphault.
In the end of August I had several sessions of work over the project, maybe 3-4 times few hours each.
General updates were camera adjustments - enlarging the camera view, changing angle, work with frame composition, finalizing refboard as the idea reached its final destination. Also some draft precomps.
An exploration into a rocket engine thrust effect simulation in 3Ds Max and Phoenix rendered in V-Ray. An attempt to recreate the feel of colossal energy thrust produced by a rocket engine during its fire tests. Some history tests from the RnD stage are added in the end to visualize the project progression.
Tutorial is comming soon! π
Through last two weekends project has passed two working sessions.
First - the reference gathering with basic volumes, camera and some written idea notes. Moodboard items.
Second - light adjustments, car paint selection, materials review and couple more main environment shaders.
*** So disappointed with Pinterest, it was so good for a ref hunting a years ago, and now right after the first search type, turns into a sloppy gallery of poor quality Ai images that ruins the inspiration within a minutes.
As a Participant of the 3DModels.org One Car Challenge following the rules step 1, publishing here the opening post that will lead the whole work progress.
... and yeah, this is a blog revive!
